Whether you'd receive the refundable or non-refundable offset (turnover test)
An indicative offset estimate, and the registration deadline (10 months after year end)
Who it's for
Companies (Pty Ltd) developing new or improved products, software, processes or materials — and resolving genuine technical uncertainty, not just applying what's already known.
What you get
A multi-section report on eligibility against each test, the eligible expenditure categories, an indicative offset range, and exactly what AusIndustry and the ATO will expect — to take to your R&D adviser or tax agent.

Questions
Who can claim the R&D Tax Incentive?
Generally an Australian company (a body corporate) that incurs at least $20,000 of eligible R&D expenditure on registered eligible activities. Sole traders, partnerships and trusts generally can't claim it directly.
Refundable or non-refundable offset — what's the difference?
Companies with aggregated turnover under the threshold generally receive a refundable offset (cash back even at a loss); larger companies receive a non-refundable offset used against tax payable. The turnover test decides which applies.
When do I have to register?
Activities have to be registered with AusIndustry within 10 months of the end of the income year in which they were conducted. We verify the exact deadline before advising.
